Separation of Power

Congress is voting to remove the troops from Iraq. I ask, what is the reason for this? Is this another unbinding resolution that this Congress is so famous for voting on? Are the American People so ignorant to fall for this? It seems some of our elected officials thinks so.

The Constitution points out who in office has what power. The founding fathers were smart enough to know that power has to be separated to prevent one office from having too much power. Control over our armed froces is one of the powers. Here is what the Constitution says about our armed forces:

Article I Section 8:
To declare war, grant letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make rules concerning Captures on Land and Water;

To raise and support Armies, but no Appropriation of Money to that Use shall be for a longer term than two years;

To provide and maintain a Navy;

To make rules for the Government and regulation of the land and naval forces;

So what the constitution says is that Congress declairs war and funds the military. Has this been done? Well, we all can remember that President Bush has gone to Congress and Congress did declair war and the troops are being funded. Infact, it was not too long ago that the funding was renewed. No where in the constitution does it say that Congress has the power over troop movement. If Congress really wants the troops out of Iraq, all they have to do is stop funding it and force the President to pull the troops out.

Article II Section 2:

The President shall be Commandor in Cheif of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the United States, when called into the actual service of the United States.

The President can't fund the military but he is the Commandor in Cheif. This means that he tells the military what to do. The founding fathers were smart. They knew that they had to split up power but also knew that for any union or organization to survive, you have to have only one leader. All good companies may have a board and different people with different responsibilities. But there is always one leader, normally a Cheif Executive Officer or President. In a good solid household you have a "Head ofHousehold" and in Government you have the Commander in Cheif. The founding fathers knew that we could not have lots of people telling our troops what to do and we could not wait around for debates and votes before deciding what the troops should do.

So, what in the world is Congress doing wasting time with voting on troop movement? Isn't there more important things for them to vote on? Is it any wonder that their approval rating is now lower then President Bush? At least President Bush knows the the Constitution says his job is.
